Specialty Trips: Go Deeper into the Canyon
Discover a Different Way to Experience the Canyon
Our Specialty Trips are designed for adventurers who want to go deeper into the Canyon. Beyond rafting and rapids, these themed journeys bring more hiking, learning, and discovery from astronomy under some of the darkest skies in the U.S. to expert-led explorations of the Canyon’s plants, geology, and history. Each trip offers a unique way to experience the Grand Canyon with purpose and curiosity.
Expedition
This 16-day adventure is designed for travelers ready for rigorous Grand Canyon hiking and scrambling. Alongside thrilling rapids, you’ll explore unique spots that can only be reached from the river — Silver Grotto, Unkar Delta, archeological sites at Nankoweap, Clear Creek, Thunder River, Elves Chasm, and more. It’s the ultimate trip for those who want to combine multi-day rafting with extended Grand Canyon hikes.
String Quartet
On this one-of-a-kind 15-day rafting trip, a professional string quartet performs in natural canyon amphitheaters and at riverside camps. Blending music with wilderness, this journey offers an unforgettable experience for music lovers seeking a Grand Canyon rafting trip that goes beyond adventure to create moments of reflection and emotional depth.
Botany
During the spring bloom, this specialty trip focuses on Grand Canyon plants, ecology, and ethnobotany traditions. A local botanist guides participants through the Canyon’s distinct life zones, topography, and geography, teaching how to identify native species. It’s an immersive way to connect with the Canyon’s natural history while enjoying rafting and hiking.
Astronomy
The Grand Canyon offers some of the darkest skies in the United States, making it a perfect place for astronomy-focused rafting trips. On this 15or16-day adventure, you’ll use professional telescopes for stargazing, join astro-photography workshops, and hear expert talks about the known — and unknown — universe. With the Milky Way overhead, this trip combines rafting by day and astronomy by night.
Upcoming Specialty Trips
Botany / Natural History Specialty Trip
Curious about the bugs, birds, and plants you see? Natural history is the practice of paying close attention to the natural world — the oldest continuous human tradition. It helps us see our place in nature more clearly and inspires better stewardship of the Earth.
On this Grand Canyon Natural History trip, we go beyond rafting and hiking to cultivate observation and learning. With the guidance of an expert naturalist, you’ll explore the Canyon’s unique animals, plants, geology, and waterways. This is a journey of connection and discovery that deepens your sense of place in the Canyon.
