Grand Canyon offers many reputable rafting companies — but CanX stands apart for guests who want active exploration, skill-building, and deeper canyon access.
Here’s what makes a CanX Grand Canyon river trip unique:
We Prioritize Hiking & Side Canyon Exploration
At CanX, rafting is only part of the adventure. While the Colorado River is spectacular, we believe the real magic lies in the remote side canyons. Every canyon is different — offering hidden waterfalls, slot passages, ancient geology, and rarely visited terrain.
Our trips emphasize:
- Frequent hiking opportunities
- Exploring remote, lesser-seen side canyons
- Maximizing time off the boats
- Immersive canyon experiences
The river provides access — but hiking reveals the heart of the Grand Canyon.
Inflatable Kayaks (IKs) — A CanX Signature Experience
CanX is the only company we are aware of that regularly runs inflatable kayaks in the Grand Canyon as an integral part of our Hybrid Trips.
Each Hybrid Trip includes:
- Two inflatable kayaks
- One-person boats for independent paddling
- Skill instruction from experienced kayak guides
- Opportunities for first-timers to learn on flat water
- Advanced opportunities to paddle through major rapids
Our guides are trained instructors in:
- Self-rescue techniques
- Rapid navigation
- Paddle skills and safety
Guests with prior paddling experience may run most of the Canyon’s rapids in an inflatable kayak — an unforgettable and empowering experience.
Lightweight 14-Foot Paddle Boats
CanX operates 14-foot paddle boats that are smaller, lighter, and more responsive than traditional gear boats.
These boats:
- Carry no heavy gear frame
- Are easier to maneuver in calm water and wind
- Accelerate quickly in large rapids
- Make even smaller rapids exciting
Guests paddle as part of a 4–6 person paddle team, guided by a dedicated paddle boat guide.
You don’t just ride through the Canyon — you participate in navigating it.
A More Active Grand Canyon Experience
CanX trips are ideal for guests who want:
- Hands-on paddling
- Skill development
- Frequent hiking
- A smaller, more engaged group dynamic
- An adventure-forward experience
Rather than a passive float, our trips are designed for those who want to explore, paddle, and immerse themselves in the Canyon.
