Can I bring an E-Reader on a Grand Canyon River Trip?

We recommend leaving your e-reader at home. Canyon Explorations/Expeditions provides a river library stocked with Grand Canyon titles that guests are welcome to enjoy in camp each evening. Many rafters also bring a paperback book if they prefer their own reading material.

While not strictly prohibited, e-readers are generally discouraged because:

  • River trips involve water, sand, and heat — all risky for electronics
  • Charging opportunities are limited
  • Solar chargers are cumbersome and intrusive
  • The canyon experience is designed to help guests unplug

Bringing a lightweight paperback is usually a simpler, safer option.
