Jon Catlett

Jon was born and raised in the rolling hills of Kentucky, and grew up spending his summers working on his family's tobacco and cattle farm. He cut his whitewater teeth in The Appalachian Mountains in nearby southern WV where he trained as a guide and learned to kayak on The New and Gauley Rivers. Jon graduated from Indiana University in Bloomington with an MBA in finance, and for nearly a decade he was pulled away from whitewater in pursuit of a career in banking. However, the great recession led him to re-evaluate his life's trajectory, and in 2008 he resigned from Citigroup and has been guiding on rivers ever since.
He has guided commercially in West Virginia, California, Colorado, Costa Rica, and most recently Arizona, where he began working in Grand Canyon for Canyon Explorations in 2014. Jon has a deep passion for wild rivers, rugged wilderness, and especially for Grand Canyon, and he greatly enjoys sharing his passion with others. In the offseason he works as a ski instructor at Purgatory Ski Resort in Durango, CO, which he currently calls home.
