Gary Bolton

Gary Bolton fell in love with the Canyon on his first trip and thinks of the river as his home.  He has rowed more than 170 Grand Canyon river trips during the past 38 years.  Gary has also guided river expeditions in 12 other countries, and has led treks for two decades in the high Himalayas of Nepal, India, Pakistan, and China.  He received his BS in Biology and MS in Botany from the University of California, Davis, and his PhD in Natural Resources from the University of Arizona, studying forest ecology in Nepal.  Gary pursues a life of guiding, biological consulting, and teaching occasional courses in biology and ecology at the University of Wyoming in Laramie.  His favorite activity, though, is sharing his love of the natural world and teaching natural sciences on long outdoor adventures.
